A joint venture between the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County, REJIS was established in 1976 as the first online information system returning stolen vehicle and vehicle registration information to law enforcement officers within seconds. In 1974, a commissioned study was published recommending the creation of one integrated criminal justice information system to serve the area’s 200 police departments, courts and corrections agencies. That regional criminal justice information system built the foundation for the present day REJIS.
