REJIS Training

Persons who operate computer terminals connected to the REJIS network for access to the law enforcement systems of REJIS, MULES (the Missouri state wide law enforcement system) and NCIC (the national law enforcement network) must be trained and tested in the applications they use. REJIS provides that training in both a pre and post employment setting.

Post Employment Training is scheduled through the agency that employs the operator.

The Pre-Employment Training Program is offered on a "space available" basis. Trainees will participate in regular REJIS classes. When the course of study is completed the trainee will be qualified to perform both entry and inquiry functions in the law enforcement systems. A certificate, which is valid for two years from the date of issue, will be issued at the completion of the course of study. Retesting is required every two years to maintain a valid certificate. If employed by a law enforcement agency, they will handle the rescheduling, otherwise it is incumbent upon the trainee to schedule retesting.

Missouri has a state requirement that individuals with a felony conviction can not serve as terminal operators. All hiring decisions are made by the individual agencies. If an applicant has a conviction for an ordinance or misdemeanor violation, the agency will generally weigh the circumstances, including the specific offense and conduct since the conviction and how long ago the conviction occurred in making their decision. However, each agency makes their own hiring decision.

Prior to being accepted for the Pre-Employment Training Program the applicant will be required to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Anyone with a felony conviction will not be permitted to enroll. Applicants with other convictions may be permitted to enroll.

The training program itself consists of several modules, each being one or more days. Depending on the availability of space in the regular training program the elapsed time required to complete the course may be two months or more. Classes are held at the REJIS Computer Center, 4255 West Pine Blvd. in the central west end of St. Louis. Classes are held Monday - Friday, between 9:00am and 4:00pm.

There is a $850 fee for the training program plus $100 for a fingerprint based background check. The $100 fee is due at the time of application and is not refundable. The $850 fee is due at the time training commences.
